Computer error messages are those messages which are displayed when there is an error that is detected by the computer’s OS for the benefit of the user to understand where the error occurred and the nature of the error. While these are suppose to be user friendly, most of these error messages contain such complex textual explanations that a common user who has limited knowledge of computer won’t be able to comprehend it. Even though we don’t understand the entire computer error message, we can at least know the particular program or the hardware which is causing this problem. These message soften help us in repairing the system.
If we look t the different kinds of error messages, they can be classified into three types namely hardware error messages, software error messages and OS error messages. The classification is mainly based on the severity and the category of the problem which it pertains to.
A software error is one which appears when there is a problem in the execution of the program. This could be due to the non availability of the resources, incompatible software program, missing data files, missing DLL’s among others. The cause of the error along with the error code will be displayed in an error dialog. The main reason for this type of errors is to let the user know as to why the program failed and what is to be done to make it work. If you follow the instructions or Google the error message, you will get the solution for the problem.
An error which occurs due to the problem in the OS will throw an OS related error message. This type of error could be due to the fact that the OS failed to handle the program or couldn’t respond to one of the requests and is logging an error against this. More than often, there might not be a solution for this kind of problem. All you can do is send this message to the OS provider and hope that this error is fixed in the next patch that will be released.
The final and the fatal type of errors are the hardware error messages. These error messages appear either due to a problem in the hardware or in the device driver. This is often displayed in a blue screen which is shown for about 3 seconds before the computer shuts down. This kind of computer error message is often known as ‘Death by Blue Screen’. If the error is due to device driver, it could be that there are two device drivers present for the same device. The solution is to either delete one of them or delete all and install the correct one. If the hardware itself is not working, then the best thing to do would be to use the computer by disconnecting that particular hardware device. Getting an expert opinion as to how to proceed in such situations will be better. If you suspect such an error, then be sure to take a back up of your data s there are very high chances that you might lose it in such cases.
