We all love freebies. And the Internet has been touted as the place to find all manner of freebies for the diligent seeker. Indeed, a considerable number of prominent netizens first came to the Internet in search of freebies, before discovering that there was more to the web than that.
Among the things that one is sure to find for free on the Internet in huge quantities is software. Indeed, there are websites whose only purpose is to facilitate the downloading of these free software programs.
A number of concerns have however been raised on the issue of security lapses arising out of the use of these free software. It has been noticed for instance, that some of the free software available on the web comes with Trojans (covert malicious sub-programs) that also get installed into your PC when you are installing the free software, only for them to start spying on your activity on the web or worse. And it is because of this fear that many people are increasingly wary of downloading free software from the Internet.
Yet there is also no denying that there are some superb free software programs on the Internet that can greatly enhance your life. These are free programs that do whatever it is that they promise they will do – whether it is helping you with your book-keeping, aiding in your web-design or helping you with computer repair (as the free PC repair software promise to).

Judging the reputation of someone or an entity you have not known for long can be hard in most other things – but certainly not in software. And herein lies a way of knowing whether a particular free PC software program you are considering downloading and installing into your computer is really good. Check its reputation and the reputation of the people behind it on various software forums on the Internet. Keep an eye particularly on what the experiences of people who have previously used it have been like.
Of course, in these forums there are bound to be people who are out to bash products just for the sake of it. You need not assume that a particular PC diagnostics software program is bad just because one person claims to have had a bad experience with it. But if there seems to be consensus in a number of software forums that a given product is no good – then you are well advised to avoid it. And if on the other hand there seems to be consensus in a number of forums that a particular free PC repair software program is good then chances are that it really is a product you should perhaps consider having. This is of course assuming that the people saying they had a good experience with it are not its promoters – because people out to promote their products on various forums are just as many as the people who are out to bash products just for kicks.
